Dan Mason creates oil on linen paintings that suggest a landscape of the imagination, with sacred structures, hill towns, ocean, harbor, cities and trees. He finds in them a sense of peace and wholeness. Many images are imagined, some are drawn from specific places, such as the volcanoes of Guatemala.

Mason applies layers of transparent oil glazes which gradually develop color that is complex and layered, and forms that create the illusion of light that emanates from within. The textured linen support holds the thin oil glazes, adding its own physical quality to the surface.
