I am a full-time ceramic artist working out of my studio in Hugo, MN. My process begins by throwing porcelain clay on the wheel and altering the shape if desired by carving, paddling, and rasping. The basis for my surface decoration begins with sketching or photographing imagery from nature, such as my floral gardens, and then sketching or brushing clay slips of those images onto leather-hard clay. These integrated designs articulate the porcelain form creating areas for glazes to pool, adding depth to the imaginary. My floral gardens and nature influence my color palette.
