Schwieters Pottery

I am a full time Ceramic Artist working out of my studio located in Hugo, Minnesota. My process begins by throwing porcelain clay on a wheel and altering the shape by carving, paddling, and rasping. The basis for my surface decorations begin with sketching or photographing imagery from nature, my floral gardens, and floral theme fabrics. My surface decorating techniques include slip application, carving, incising, applying underglaze, along with applying Mishima and/or sgraffito methods to the form. These integrated designs articulate the porcelain form creating areas for glazes to pool which add depth to the imaginary. My color palette is influenced by my floral gardens and nature.

It is my intention to bring everyday elegance to your tabletop and home.
