Art-A-Whirl 2018

The 300 artists at the Northrup King Building are ready to open their private studios to the public during Art-A-Whirl 2018. This weekend long event is full of abundant visual art in nearly every art medium, art demonstrations, food trucks and random music throughout the weekend.

Botanical Printmaking by Linda Snouffer (Studio 139). Sample prints from the demos will be given away to the audience present.

Glass Blowing Demos on the hour. Goldenflow Studios in (Studio 157)

Painting Demonstrations

Mary Pettis all weekend in (Studio 366).

Dyan Padgett demos realistic oil painting of waterlilies from the field. (Studio 400A)

Michele Combs will demonstrate how she uses a small painted study as an aide to create a larger work. (Studio 391). Saturday 12:30 – 5:00.

The Art of Portraiture: Live Painting Demo. Artists and live model will speak about their individual approach toward painting a portrait. (Studio 294) Saturday and Sunday 12:00-3:00 p.m..

Weaving Demonstrations

Moses Weaving – Ongoing weaving demos plus your chance to try weaving on a portable loom. (Studio 191)

Custom Woven Interiors – weaving demonstrations of textiles on looms of various sizes throughout the weekend. (Studio 386)

Natural Dye Colors in Art. Emily Donovan will demonstrate ways to create color and pigment from plant-based materials with dye that she uses in her work, a hybrid of batik style painting. She will show how chemistry and science come together with exciting, instantaneous results. (Studio 256)

Alterative Photography Demonstrations. – Brian Reda will demonstrate alternative photographic processes and large format photography. He specializes in creating tintype images using the wet plate collodion process as well as cyanotypes using a system of digital negatives and UV contact printing. (Studio 256)

Demo featuring handmade earrings and printed tunics presented by ACG and ILO (Studio 466). Sunday from 1:00-3:00.

READINGS

Mother and son guest authors Pam and Vince Ebertz will be reading and signing their unique and creative children’s books. (Studio 285)

INTERACTIVE / INSTALLATION ART

“Orange Tornado and his Tie of Lies” (Studio 207)

“Just A Girl” series by Linda Clayton (Studio 390). The series of paintings is based on songs by women that empower women. The paintings are displayed with headphones to listen to the song that inspired it.

Sloppy Films Animation Station (Third Floor Gallery #332). May 19th from Noon – 4:00 p.m.

Art NIMotion takes place all weekend and creates an engaging and interactive experience for the public. (Third Floor Gallery #332).
