Colleen Cosgrove is a Minnesota fine artist engaged in the study of life through the practice of oil painting. She has spent many years exploring her art, developing a style, and experimenting with color and technique. Working exclusively in oils, whether working on location outdoors or in her home studio from natural objects and her own reference photos, she aims to reveal the hidden beauty and significance in the simplest of subjects. For the past five years or so, she has been embracing plein air and alla prima painting, capturing the essential feeling of a scene in one session.
A lifelong resident of the Twin Cities, Colleen began painting as a teenager at the Convent of the Visitation School in Mendota Heights. She had several exceptional art teachers who recognized and encouraged her talent. With their guidance, she went on to attend the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul. Her experiences there intensified her passion to explore the medium of oil on canvas. That pursuit continues to grow and evolve every day.
