Josie Lewis uses popular print media, paint and multiple layers resin to make what she calls “slabs”. The printed source material runs the gamut from National Geographic to Time to Vogue Magazine. The found paper is edited and carved into small slices and ordered into highly ornate, complex collages. The slabs are several inches thick and highly glossy with intriguing depth. Orbs and circles are a consistent motif. The work is reminiscent of stained glass, marine life, and mosaic.
The resin, an extremely hard epoxy material, is highly versatile, providing a finished product that is suitable for wall art but also has the durability for other applications, such as furniture and table tops.Studio Number: 180
