Andrew Mathiassen

Primary Medium: Metals
Other Mediums: Clay

After roughly 30 years away from creating art, Andrew found himself in the studio as a means of therapy for work related issues. He discovered the passion that he had lost so many years ago. As Andrew worked to reclaim any technical skill he had lost over the years, he discovered a passion for making art that he thought had been lost forever. The ideas and energy flowed into him to the point of obsession. Andrew wrapped himself around the processes of creating a resolved idea, a pleasing piece of sculpture.

Being an uncomplicated man, Andrew can’t really divine the whys and wherefores of what he does. He can only say that what he create pleases him; he hopes it pleases his audience as well. What is fascinating for him is the many processes involved in bringing an idea to conclusion. Andrew’s original idea often undergoes many changes from clay, to wax, to bronze. His fascination with the human figure and the infinite possibilities has him totally captivated. Andrew will continue to explore the figure and the challenges it provides.
